Background and reasons for adoption

As a provider of ICT solutions, TOKYO SYSTEM HOUSE Co., Ltd. (TSH) places strong emphasis on enhancing security and improving operational efficiency. TSH previously used a terminal-based face recognition unlocking system, but when it moved to a new office building, it looked for a more flexible, higher-performance solution. TSH chose KAOPASS Key & Entry/Exit as a system that let it make use of the iPads it already owned.

Deployment process

1. Identifying challenges and defining requirements

The entry and exit management challenges that came with the move were sorted out, and a system was designed to meet the following requirements:

  • High-speed authentication
  • Effective use of the company’s own equipment (iPads)
  • Seamless integration with electronic locks
  • Flexible authentication range settings for each installation environment

2. System design

iPads were installed at the entrances of the staff room, conference rooms, and the president’s office and connected to electronic locks, enabling face recognition authentication and unlocking in under one second.

3. Deployment and start of operation

A total of nine face recognition systems were installed at the entrance and in key office areas (six in constant use, three used as needed). The size of faces to be recognized was adjusted for each installation location, preventing people in the background from being picked up while ensuring accurate authentication.

Results after deployment

1. Better cost efficiency by using existing equipment

By using the iPads already owned by TSH as terminals, the company kept down the cost of purchasing new hardware.

2. High-speed authentication and unlocking

Integration between face recognition and electronic locks means authentication and unlocking are completed in about one second, making entry and exit management smooth.

3. More authentications

Since the system started operating, it has handled more than 12,000 face recognition unlocks a month, confirming that it operates stably.

4. More registered users

About 200 employees are currently registered in TSH’s system, supporting smooth entry and exit every day.

5. Flexible installation

The authentication range (face size) can be adjusted according to the installation location, which resolved the problems of missed recognitions and people in the background being picked up.

6. Functionality equal to or better than other companies’ systems

TSH introduced a system that keeps the same functions as the other provider’s face recognition cameras it used before, while being optimized for its new way of operating.

Customer testimonial

With our move to a new office building, we adopted KAOPASS Key & Entry/Exit, which we propose to customers as a reseller, for our own use.
Being able to use our existing iPads was a big attraction, and we moved smoothly from our previous system.
We are also satisfied with its speed, unlocking in about one second, and with the ability to adjust settings flexibly for each installation location.
It also gives us great peace of mind that it can operate with more than 200 registered users and handle more than 10,000 authentications a month.

Future outlook

TSH aims to expand its use of face recognition technology to further improve operational efficiency and employee convenience. As a reseller, it also plans to use this track record to strengthen its proposals to other companies.
