TIGEREYE Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo; CEO: Gaku Kamimura; hereinafter “TIGEREYE”) is participating in the FY2024 Regional Digital Infrastructure Utilization Promotion Project (Demonstration Project), “Verification Toward a ‘Smart Industrial Park’ Using Shared Local 5G in Gifu Prefecture,” carried out by a consortium of 10 organizations and businesses with Kani Industrial Park Cooperative Association (Chairman: Masahiro Yamaguchi; 2-8 Himegaoka, Kani City, Gifu Prefecture) as the representative organization. This project is a demonstration project of the “shared use by an industrial park” type that aims to solve regional issues using cutting-edge communication technology (local 5G) and robots (drones) operating on it.
Overall overview
Japan’s manufacturing industry, which has supported the country’s economic growth, faces a range of challenges such as labor shortages, business continuity planning (BCP), and DX, yet small and medium-sized manufacturers have found it hard to address them individually. Kani Industrial Park has built a variety of infrastructure, including shared power reception, industrial wastewater, and domestic sewage facilities. By building a cutting-edge information infrastructure that links “data” and “things,” it aims to solve the challenges facing these manufacturers and to become a “Smart Industrial Park” capable of sustainable growth into the future, extending the model nationwide and revitalizing the region.
In this demonstration project, a local 5G base station installed at Kani Industrial Park and a local 5G core installed at VR Techno Center will be connected via the Gifu Information Super Highway to verify shared use of the local 5G core. Within Kani Industrial Park, the project aims to link “data” through local 5G and to link the logistics of “things,” in normal times and in disasters, through BCP-ready transport robots.
TIGEREYE is participating in a demonstration experiment in which parcels are transported by drone between member companies within Kani Industrial Park, and employees of the member companies are verified by face recognition at pickup using a drone-mounted camera over local 5G.
Building on the technology and knowledge gained through this demonstration, TIGEREYE aims to deliver a variety of services by linking face recognition with drones, such as more efficient logistics using drones and face recognition in normal times, and effective emergency logistics and employee safety confirmation using drones and face recognition in disasters. Through initiatives like this, we will continue to contribute to sustainable regional revitalization.
